Just When You Thought The Bookish Snob Couldn't Be Shocked!!

Okay, I had to share. I read all kinds of romance - the full range from YA to erotica. Like others, it depends on the mood I'm in, and what catches my eye at the moment. I've made no attempt to hide the fact I'm a total cover whore and one of my weaknesses are Highlanders. So the following story wouldn't surprise you ... let alone me, right? SO WRONG LOL

Imagine this. I'm at my local Walmart and I'm in the book section, looking through the shelves. You know you have a book addiction when you've got most of the titles on sale. They just put up another "cheap buy" section, and skimming through them, I didn't think I'd find anything until I saw this -

In the Scottish Highlands, two warriors are about to clash over a woman of passion...

They were the unlikeliest of friends debauching their way through London: The Earl of Camdonn, a nobleman of vast wealth and power, and Scottish laird Alan MacDonald, a respected Jacobite with ambitions of his own. But their friendship is destroyed when Alan marries the beautiful Sorcha Stewart-only to witness Cam kidnap her from their bedroom. Then Alan learns the truth: his bride was not an innocent. She took a lover before him-his friend-who taught her the ways of pleasure.
Now, Alan will do anything to get his wife back. Cam fights to redeem his honor, even as he refuses to give up his desire. Torn between love and duty, Sorcha must watch as the two men she desires go to war over her. And when the battle lines are drawn, all three lovers are lured into a triangle of forbidden passions...

I think I squeed out loud I was so excited! Already determined to buy it, I flipped it over and read the blurb. Amazing, huh? I wanted to read it right there and then. I showed my husband and placed it straight away into my cart. This would be a Christmas present to myself and I kept shopping.

Fast forward to the other day. I was feeling restless, and wanted something to read. I saw the book, and it was a no-brainer - Sunday ... Highlander romance ... two warriors fighting for the one woman. PERFECT. I began reading and started stumbling on words I didn't think I would ... words that suggested there was a lot more "spice" than I expected. I brushed it off, telling myself it'd been a while since I'd read this genre, and Walmart doesn't sell erotic romance. Then it happened about page 12-13 and I was stunned. My eyes grew bigger, and my mouth dropped. HOT, HOT, HOT loving and it was a kind of triangle, promise of a menage kind of scene. Of course, I re read it just to make sure I was right and it hadn't changed - Walmart was selling erotic romance!!

Am I complaining? HECK NO!! But I'll admit I was shocked because that was the LAST place I expected to find a book with that level of heat in it. I bought a book thinking I was getting one thing and got something much, much more. Again, not complaining, and it has me wanting to pay more attention to what I find there.

As a side note, it goes to show the power of a cover and suggestion. I swear I thought I'd read the blurb properly, but I know I didn't. I saw a sexy highlander on the cover, read the first few words of the blurb and bought it. It's right there toward the end of the blurb - it suggests the menage. Also goes to show the power of the ABS - just to the side it even says "Wickedly erotic romance - a scorching page-turner." Yep, I got a lot of laughter when I shared this with family. A lot of head shaking too because this is classic Bels. *sighs*

So moral of the story? I'll let you know when I've finished the book!

I'm just as shocked as you. I wonder if my Wal-Mart has books slipped in that they don't know about!
