I Am So Curious And Just A Little Scared!

So, I've done some cover cringes in the past and in one of my Facebook groups, a book was posted that at first glance fit it perfectly! But taking a closer look at the blurb, if I'd been drinking, liquid would've shot out of my nose because I was shocked! Surely, I wasn't reading it right but I couldn't help laughing hard. See what you think...

It's difficult to love a woman whose vagina is a gateway to the world of the dead...
Steve is madly in love with his eccentric girlfriend, Stacy. Unfortunately, their sex life has been suffering as of late, because Steve is worried about the odd noises that have been coming from Stacy's pubic region. She says that her vagina is haunted. She doesn't think it's that big of a deal. Steve, on the other hand, completely disagrees.

When a living corpse climbs out of her during an awkward night of sex, Stacy learns that her vagina is actually a doorway to another world. She persuades Steve to climb inside of her to explore this strange new place. But once inside, Steve finds it difficult to return... especially once he meets an oddly attractive woman named Fig, who lives within the lonely haunted world between Stacy's legs.

ROFMBO!!! This is NOT a joke!!!

After my discussion about male romance authors .. it makes me so curious to see what happens but also scared because being traumatised seems inevitable!! This sounds like a funny read but at $7.99, I'm not sure I want to risk it but how can I not? It's tempting me... calling me to buy it and put it on my Kindle. Has anyone read this book? I know he has other titles as well:

Razor Wire Pubic Hair
The Kobold Wizard's Dildo of Enlightenment
and other scary ones!

Part of me wants to go.... "Ahhhh he found romance, maybe Fig is his soul mate and he's her hero and they get to live happily ever after" but can you imagine?? Good gosh, where would they live?? In Stacy's crotch forever? *crazy thoughts FLOOD my mind* And just because I'm in a squick frame of mind, next time I go to my gyno, do I need to have him check for a hidden world? Do I need to worry about strange noises? Oh crap, the other night... I thought it was my daughter singing off key but what if?? ROFL I so want to read this book. Let me gather up my courage because just from the blurb, I can tell this will be an education!!

I'll keep you posted!

Banned Books Week Giveaway HOP

I am so stinkin' excited to be participating in the fabulous blog giveaway HOPS hosted by I Am A Reader, Not A Writer & I Read Banned Books. For the next 7 days, (YEP, that's 7 days) we get to visit all the fabulous blogs involved to enter for a chance to win books and gift cards!  The theme of this HOP is Banned Books and I picked the perfect one - did you know the first ever romance I read is on the banned list? Well I didn't but judging for the way it was a HOT COMMODITY in my high school library, I don't think the school knew either! Maybe it's different in another country? I went to an all girls high school and remember the whispers and giggles as the book swept through every year. I was lucky to get to read it because as my friend went to return it, I was there to check it out. I remember feeling scandalized by it but completely engrossed - what an adult I was! LOL Little did I know that 20 years later, I would still be reading books that make me blush a little. Thank goodness my parents never knew what I was reading!

On the topic of banned books, I wanted to add a thought I recently had and made me want to laugh a little. When I looked at a list the other day, I saw the Twilight and Harry Potter series on it, making me double take. Here these books are a "no-no" but the last time I went to my local library, in the teen section, I found an Anita Blake graphic novel and a Keri Arthur book. They were both filled with less than appropriate material but when I spoke with the librarian, I was told that was were they were classified and she wouldn't be moving them. I began reading again with Harry Potter and Twilight introduced me to the paranormal genre. It seems a contradiction that books I feel are great introducers to reading be banned but adult themes for teens okay. Doesn't make sense, right?

As part of the HOP - The Romance Diva and I are giving away TWO books and here they are....

The Romance Diva
Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

The Bookish Snob
Forever by Judy Blume

There will be TWO winners and to enter all you need do is the following:

Be a follower of this blog
Fill out the form HERE
We'd love to hear what you think about banning books and any experiences you've had. Reading Forever has really stuck in my mind... enough that I remember specifics 20 years later. How about you?

Make sure you visit other stops on the link list and have fun!
Thanks for coming by!!

What Do You Think? Female VS Male Romance Authors

I thought I'd begin a new feature here on the blog because I find myself thinking a lot about what I'm reading, writing and blogging about and would love to get everyones input on it. Today's topic is something I've seriously stewed over for YEARS and my thinking was sparked back up again after I saw a posting on Facebook about a book where the plot was undeniably funny but definitely a little creepy - female VS male romance authors.

Are you an "equal opportunity to SWOON" reader when it comes to the authors of the romance you read?

I will admit, I'm a little wary when it comes to reading romance by a male author. I don't know whether it's the stereotype that men have no idea what women want or that they're unable to capture the "emotional" level I know I crave when it comes to romance. Or is it the assumption the book will be nothing but "insert A into B"? I know I've heard people share when they think of male romance novels, they think of stories in Playboy and the like. I love a good steamy scene but without a healthy dose of feeling, that book is as good as closed.

I think about why I read romance - I love the emotional connection, the way the heart and soul of the couple rise above it all and give a happily ever after. I adore the alpha male and want him as tortured as possible. I want him sexy and full of swagger, whispering to the heroine all kinds of things that make me sigh and weak kneed. Is a male author able to provide that? I don't know only because I'm too scared to find out. With so many books vying for my attention, books that will almost guarantee leaving me satisfied, do I have the time to invest in a story that leaves me wanting? I find myself wondering - will the author write from the heroines point of view and if so, should I be impressed if he captures the heart of her or scared when he does? I'd love to read a romance from the males perspective but again, I like the emotional, sigh inducing side of the hero - can a male author capture that?

By no way, am I saying it's impossible. This is an honest question and something I've pondered. Am I the only one who when she's searching for new reads will automatically discard a romance novel if the author is male? Am I missing out on a hidden treasure because I'm afraid or have fallen into the trap of believing romance writing is solely a womans profession? When I have been brave and started to read a story, do I give up too quickly because it doesn't feel familiar like the books I'm used to reading? I don't know.

So again, I ask - are you an equal opportunist? Or are you like me and keeps their distance? Have you read romance novels by male authors and if so, what was it like? I would definitely be interested in any recommendations because just as much as I'm afraid to be disappointed, I'm just as afraid to miss out on something that will truly move me.

Feel free to share ...

NaNoWriMo 2011

Wow, it's that time already! For those who don't know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and happens every November. It's a worldwide challenge for those interested in writing where each person commits to writing 50,000 words in the month. The purpose is to gather everyone together, fire up the imagination and write the story that's burning inside. The wonderful thing about NaNo is the organizers help break down the word count into managable goals, helping you keep track and stay motivated along the way.

I did NaNo for the first time last year and I was so nervous. I worried I wouldn't be able to complete it, that I was setting myself up for failure but sure enough, with a few days to spare .... I FINISHED!! This is a challenge for EVERYONE! Not just published authors. If you have a book inside you... join up and have fun! I'm signing up again this year under The Bookish Snob (I was still into being anonymous last year LOL I'd resign up but then it wouldn't show I completed last November) so look me up and we can be buddies!

If you're interested, here's the link where you can find all kinds of information. As we're heading into October, now would be a great time to start thinking and planning.

Exciting Time To Be A Bookish Snob!

Hi everyone! Can you believe it's been over a year since The Bookish Snob was created?? It has been a roller coaster of a ride and I want to thank EVERYONE who has supported me and joined in on the fun. I absolutely ADORE reading and one of the best decisions I've ever done has been this blog! I'm naturally a passionate person... what you see here is what you get in real life. I squee and gush and get giddy over the things that excite me, sharing it with those around me. I just wish I'd started blogging sooner.

You might also know I'm also now an author ... YEP I took the plunge and have been writing urban fantasy and romance. I AM LOVIN' IT! I really feel like I'm doing what I'm meant to do - immersing myself into the book world and having fun! Never in my WILDEST dreams would I have thought this would be me. This career path was never on my radar, I went to school to become a therapist but destiny had other plans. So this is me now ... avid romance reader, book reviewer and published author.

I've thought long and hard about how I would juggle everything. I've run two blogs for months now - The Bookish Snob and Writings Of A Dreamer. I initially wanted to keep everything separate but the deeper I get into everything, the more it makes sense to combine. PLEASE know that nothing will change here. This site is still 100% dedicated to ALL things books and romance. I am still writing reviews, posting my silly ramblings and sharing features (how can I not share yummy photos?) There will just be more. I'm going to begin sharing writing things, updates on releases and posting teasers. What you'll find is more ME! Sounds exciting, right?

So thank you for everything and I hope you continue on the journey with me. LOTS of amazing things in the future! Happy reading!!

In one single act of brutal betrayal, he lost everything, including his life. Brought back by a Greek goddess to be one of her Dark-Hunters, he gave his immortal soul for vengeance and swore he’d spend eternity protecting the humans he’d once considered prey.

While protecting her adoptive race, she has spent her life eliminating the Dark-Hunters and training for the day when she meets the man who killed her family: Jess Brady.

A gun in the hand is worth two in the holster...

Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress Blog Tour with Christine Schulze

I am so excited to be a part of this tour because I read and reviewed Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress last year and LOVED it! So I jumped at any chance to share again how much I enjoyed this fantasy romance! Today, author Christine Shulze is sharing an interesting guest post so I hope it tempts you into buying yourself a copy....

Golden Healer: the First of Many

I consider it quite the compliment when readers and reviewers call me a “prolific writer”. It is true that I have written and do write much and have many books floating out on the market these days. However, since it was only published last year in ebook form and only a couple months ago in paperback form, most probably don’t realize that Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress, was my first truly accepted manuscript, the first book I signed a contract for. I would like to take a moment to talk about this road to publication.
It began when I was a freshman at Southwestern Illinois College, the best school in all the world (well, at least until Gail Fleming retired; do read about her in The Gailean Quartet). I had recently sent off a couple of submissions, and one of them came back to me with a positive reply, an acceptance for The Prism of Ashlei (first in The Gailean Quartet, and since self-published by myself). The catch? They weren’t a traditional publisher. They wanted me to pay an exorbitant sum to publish my book. A sum I wanted so much to pay but, in the end, my stubbornness gave way and I turned the offer down. I was better than that. I could get published by someone else without paying.
Still, I was pretty down-trodden; thank God that, at just the right time, not long after, I got an acceptance for another of my books by Writers-Exchange. Yep, you guessed it: Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress. Now, at first, I didn’t remember sending this book at all. Then, gradually, it returned to me. On the website, the published had mentioned liking both Christian stories and vampire stories. It seemed the perfect fit, and I guess it was. After assuring this publisher didn’t want me to pay anything for my work, I signed my first contract.
The road to publication would be a long one. Besides edits, Sandy Cummins, the publisher, was making a lot of changes to the website, ebook formats, and such at the time to make everything top-notch. So there were loads more delays than Writers-Exchange usually has.
While waiting, I published various stories with ezines like Kalkion, published in anthologies with Victory Tales Press and others, and also self-published some of my books. This was not an admit to self-defeat. It was a personal journey, one which involved using all I was learning from my editors to make the books as best I could. Plus, I got to design my own covers; of course, I have matured in this area as well, and many of my covers have received recent make-overs. Furthermore, I didn’t have to pay a dime, except, of course, to order copies of my books.
I also discovered Old Line Publishing, published Bloodmaiden with them, and signed on a couple more books with them, including Lily in the Snow and Other Elemental Tales, which will be released this October. I did many blog tours, started sending books out for review, and joined Goodreads, the best site to host book give aways, make connections, and garner reviews. My list of reviews on Goodreads is steadily growing, and, God-willing, will continue to.
Finally, three years later, we were at the final steps for Golden Healer, and in 2010, the ebook came out, followed up a year later by the print version. Now, I am in the process of soon releasing both an ebook and print version with Writers-Exchange for The Chronicles of the Mira. Two books with them, loads of other books elsewhere on the web, and still going.
Golden Healer, Dark Enchantress was the first book I ever signed a contract for. While it was the first accepted, it was not the first published; however, its unique story and world is quickly gaining popularity and great reviews. If you’re hooked like so many other readers, please hop over to Goodreads and read the reviews for yourself, and then, maybe, just maybe, you’ll consider starting the adventure for yourself.

He leaned his head close to my ear and whispered, "Are you afraid?"
Chrystine had had more reason than any other time of her life, even when facing one of the rampages of her drunken father. But she wasn't afraid. And that was odd, because although Aaryn, the person asking her that question, was her best friend, he was also a vampire. In fact, she was surrounded by hundreds of vampires. But they weren't your typical vampires. They were Stregoni Benefici, the good kind. Nor was Chrystine your typical elf. She was the Golden Healer, and she alone could save the Stregoni Benefici from the Dark Enchantress. But can Chrystine figure out the Dark Enchantress' secret and defeat the evil vampires without destroying the good ones as well, without destroying Aaryn? Can Chrystine unravel the dark secret Aaryn keeps so carefully guarded and show him that by choosing to serve good instead of evil, he is still capable of being loved and his past is forgiven?

And the companion story to this amazing story!

This short but powerful novella chronicles the early life of Aaryn, who, in mourning after the recent death of his wife, Chrystine, reflects upon the girl whose name and healing nature made him fall in love with that wife at their first meeting—the other Krystine, his first love, a lovely, innocent, child-like Veela. In remembering her, he recounts his early ventures—how he became the very first vampire; how he protected Krystine from the lusts of the Princes of Night and struggled to protect her from himself; how he was forcibly drug into a mission in search for the One who could overthrow the evil of the Enchantress who created him—and how all these tales and misadventures weave together to tell the story of a love so beautiful and yet sorrowful, brimming with both hope and hopelessness. A tale of mystery, adventure, and passion, Aaryn's story echoes the unbreakable love and eternal bond between two immortals. Truly, this is the saddest vampire tale ever told.

David Gandy for Barrons!!!

So with the news of the Fever series becoming a movie spreading like wild fire, every one is on tender hooks .... WHO will play our beloved character, Barrons? You can't just cast anyone and if you're like me who now can't stomach the Twilight series because of Robert Pattinson, only PERFECTION will do. Barrons is a very intense and powerful man. He has incredible presence and is a man of very few words. You want to watch him on the screen and not only think, "My gosh, I want him!" but when he opens his mouth, you forget your name and swear you will give ANYTHING for just a second of his time.

I've been playing on Facebook, talking about who should play him and there's been alot of suggestions ... here's mine. When I think Barrons, I think David Gandy. Not only is the man a walking orgasm but as you listen to his accent, don't you just melt? Look at his eyes.... can you imagine them piercing you? Can you imagine having that body press you up against the wall? Pin you to the cave floor? Dance with you as you're slowly coming back from being Priya? Let me know what you think.....

And because I can't get enough of his photos....

YUMMY!!

Betrayed Blog Tour with Ednah Walters + Giveaway

WOOT! It's my turn on the tour and I'm excited to have author Ednah Walters on my blog to share a little about Betrayed, the second book in her Guardian Legacy series! It's a great YA paranormal series and today, I'm sharing a little snippet I enjoyed when I read it! So get comfy, and afterwards, head over to Amazon or Barnes and Noble to grab a copy!!

Teaser

He glanced over my shoulder, his eyes narrowing. "You can put her backpack down, Sykes."

"What?" No thank you for my gentlemanly act?" His tone was sarcastic, making it hard to tell whether he was genuinely annoyed or faking it.

Bran ignored Sykes, lowered his head and kissed me again, the way he usually did when we were alone. Angling his head, he deepened the contact. I forgot about sykes as the world tilted and I floated to a zone filled with sensations and warmth. I stopped caring about who might be watching as our psi energies mingled until it was impossible to tell where he ended and I began.

A jarring ring resounded in my ears. That was unusual. But then again, each moment in Bran's arms was different and more exciting than the last. My arms tightened around him.

He broke the contact to whisper, "Your cell phone."

I didn't care. Besides, it stopped ringing and Sykes as gone. Not that i had a problem kissing BRan in front of Sykes. Kiss me again.

Bran chuckled. Later.

Okay, I don't know about you but that must have been one heck of a kiss to not recognize your phone. As someone COMPLETELY addicted to my Droid 3, I wanted to jump into the story and see if Bran could kiss me like that *insert sigh*

Lil has come to terms with her life as a Guardian/demon hunter and the wielder of the Nephilim most powerful weapon. She trains everyday to master her growing powers, gets along with her Guardian trainee friends (most of the time) and cherishes her moments with her human friends. Just when she feels she belongs, her nature-bender father contacts her and warns her about a betrayal by someone close to her. Then Bran, the guy she loves, starts to act strange and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability. While Lil struggles find a connection between these three things, she begins to realize that someone is manipulating her and Bran, and will stop at nothing (including hurting those she loves) to lure them to the dark side.

About Ednah Walters

I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries before I graduated to Mills & Boons (starting with Janet Daily's Shutter the Sky). I enjoy good love stories, tingly mysteries and wondrous adventures. When I finished college and decided to be a stay-at-home mother, I devoured books like they were going out of production, until reading just wasn't enough. So I decided to teach myself to write fiction. I've written picture books, contemporary and romantic suspense, biracial/multicultural books, and finally YA fantasy. Most of them are still taking up RAM on my computer. Awakened is the first book in The Guardian Legacy series. It was released in September 2011 with rave reviews. Betrayed (book 2 in the series) was released August 1st 2011. Hunted, book 3 in the series, is due out in March. When I'm not knee deep in battles between Guardians and demons, I write adult contemporary romance (the Fitzgerald family series), sassy, stubborn and gutsy women anyone can identify with and men anyone would be proud to claim. When not writing, I do things with my family, five children or my darling husband of 19 years. I live in a picturesque valley in Utah, the setting for my YA series.

Teaser Tuesday - The Deed by Lynsay Sands

This week I was in the mood for something fun and Lynsay Sands is the QUEEN of writing humorous historical romance. I LOVE how she captures the naivete of the heroine!

"My lady," he began carefully. "I fear you have misunderstood ..." He paused to frown. "You do not seen to ... You appear to be a bit lacking in knowledge of whats consummating the marriage entails," he got out finally.
"I do?" Emma worried her lip uncertainly.
"Aye," he announced heavily. "There is more to it."
"There is?" She was definitely anxious now.

This entire scene is HILARIOUS!!

An innocent young beauty finds herself the fulcrum of a struggle for feudal power. Along with her ample dowry, Emma finds herself promised to Amaury de Aneford, a landless knight whose able sword has preserved the King's crown-and whose rugged good looks make her heart skip a beat.

Carry On The Flame Blog Tour with Jodine Turner

I'm so excited to have author Jodine Turner visit today on her blog tour and she's sharing a great book excerpt from her latest release, Carry On The Flame. I remember reading the blurb and getting so excited so sit back, relax and enjoy the sneak peek!

Carry on the Flame: Destiny’s Call Book One is a YA/adult magical urban fantasy, paranormal romance novel. Carry on the Flame: Ultimate Magic Book Two releases October 31, 2011.

In Carry on the Flame, humanity is in the midst of the greatest crisis in their evolution. Sharay is the one chosen to show the way forward and help humankind move through the fear and dark times of today’s world. Born into a lineage of priestesses in modern day Glastonbury, England, Sharay’s way is blocked by her jealous Aunt Phoebe, who uses black magic against her to steal her fortune and magical power. When Phoebe commits Sharay to a psychiatric ward and accuses her of murder, Sharay struggles with the temptation to fight Phoebe’s vengeance with her own. Through the ancient Celtic ceremony of Beltaine, Sharay experiences profound sacred union with the Welshman Guethyn, who shows her how to open her heart. But Sharay must learn to transform her hatred for her aunt in order to claim the mystery held deep within her cells that will allow her to fulfill her destiny and prove that the ultimate magic is the power of love.

“Wait a minute,” Sharay pushed herself up and stood. She faced Guethyn, his lean tall body silhouetted against the blue of the ocean. “I’m just as freaked out as you, but it looks like we were in each other’s dream. Whether we like it or not.” Sharay’s words caught in her throat as she glimpsed at what lay just behind Guethyn, apparent now only in day’s full light.

The mouth of a cave, partially hidden by a sharp outcropping of rocks, beckoned her. Sharay peered over Guethyn’s shoulder. It looked like low tide would allow easy entrance.

“Look,” she pointed. She ran toward the opening, unable to deny whatever it was that compelled her to search inside. Guethyn was right beside her.

The interior of the cave was small, perhaps ten feet long by five feet wide. The sand glinted and the rocks hummed with the echo of the surf. Sharay stood still, cocked her head, sure she heard soft voices above the sound of the surf. She looked around her, seeing no one but Guethyn. The voices persisted. Many eager voices that all spoke at the same time so their words seemed to reverberate off the cave walls.

“Here. It starts here, Sharay,” the many voices whispered.

She looked at Guethyn, wanting a reality check, needing confirmation. His mouth was parted, his head inclined to the side, as if he, too, was listening. Sharay began to feel an unusual confidence – the voices she heard now, the voices she heard in the past and was told to suppress, the voices she was sure she would continue to hear – were all revealing inspired guidance. If she could finally accept it, Guethyn could, too.

“It’s all real, Guethyn.” She looked up at him, put her hands on his arms. “Our dream was a message. Not meant to scare us.”

“I told you I don’t believe in all that anymore.”

“Then why did you come with us, Guethyn?” she asked softly.

“Because you needed my help. Nothing more.”

“Nothing more?”

Guethyn did what he’d wanted to since he’d met Sharay. He brushed aside a strand of her hair. The one that often fell over her cheek.

Sharay trembled at his tender affection, unsure of what to do. Her body had its own instinct. She lifted her chin, raised her lips to his. She now understood what Guethyn meant to her, how vitally important he had been to her before and could be again. But she wanted proof of it for his sake. When their lips met, she felt his warm and eager welcome, the heat of exploring his mouth with hers. In the next instant, all the images in her dream rushed back simultaneously and forcefully. She expected it, and still it stunned her. More so, it filled her with longing for the love she shared with him in other lifetimes.

“Sharay,” he whispered. Confusion warred within him at the strength of their rediscovered feelings, and mirrored itself in the lines of his jaw and the force of his grip.

She could barely see him through her tears. The intensity of lifetimes loving the man who stood before her exploded inside her. The strength of it brought her to her knees. He dropped down alongside her, and they clung to each other.

Sharay didn’t know how long she held him. She soothed him, remembered him, wanted him.

Though he’d long ago rejected the Goddess, Guethyn couldn’t fight the visions Sharay brought to life when he held her in his arms. The soothing sounds she whispered in his ear somehow helped him remember it all. The lifetimes together, the all consuming love he’d felt for her for eons on end. Once out of her embrace, he might push aside the visions, he might question everything, but he knew what was real for him in this moment. The love he suddenly felt was more real than anything he’d ever
experienced. His heart ached for her, rejoiced in finding her. Every cell in his body called out for her.

A week ago, he might have rejected the jarring memories of this ancient love come to life again. But with Sharay’s body against his and his arms around her, there was nothing to do but yield to the force of his feelings for her. No words passed between them; understanding bound them.

When she finally stood, released from his embrace, Sharay felt suddenly shy. She didn’t know what to say. Something in her gut, something dark and slippery, tightened. The black hole rose up in shadowy warning, calling her back to safety, warning her she’d only be hurt by love.

Get Your Swoon On!

"Sorry. But seriously ... I don't want you there this late, came Maxim's responding text. And then another. I'll be able to help tomorrow ... so call it a night and get home safe and sound. Text me when you're all tucked snug in your bed ... unless you'd rather come on over and be all tucked snug with me in mine ;)
"Actually," Sharlamagne brazenly texted, speaking out loud as she did so, walking toward the front door of the old house, intent on leaving. "I WOULD rather be tucked in with you in yours." It was so much easier to text scandalous flirtations than it was to say  face to face. There were no consequences with texting.
"Then come on over and make it happen."
A startled squeal escaped Sharlamagne's throat at the sound of Maxim's voice. She looked up, blushing as she saw him standing in the doorway, shoving his cell phone in his pocket.
