Today RomCon officially started and holy heck! It was AH-MAZING. I seriously crawled back to my hotel room at midnight, high on an intense buzz! I have never SQUEED so hard, giggled so hard, blushed so hard! I hands down recommend coming to all those that love reading romance because this is definitely a reader driven convention and the authors were simply PHENOMONAL! I met so many today and loved every moment. So you want a recap with photos? Lets see what I can come up with...
Build A Hero Workshop
First thing I did was take part in a Build A Hero Workshop with Lacey! I'm a sucker for a good hero and we worked with authors Gabi Stevens and Nicole Peeler. Let me just tell you... if Nicole writes how she acts... it's a RIOT! Our hero was called Noah Hunter because he was a "broken" man with the gift of being an animal empath - otherwise known as the BEASTMASTER. He was 6'1" with auburn hair and you know me... I had to add "AND KILLER ABS!" We even had titles for 4 books (courtesy of Nicole - Touch My Weasel, Ride My Ass, Stroke My Monkey and Seize My Snake. Nicole got a tweet at the end with the possible title for the 5th book - Pound My Starfish! I almost choked several times for laughing! Walking around the workshop as well was this.... the first of many a man candy!
He has a name... I'm sure of it! I got stuck on the abs and "V"
Next stop was the Historical Romance panel and we talked about my FAVORITE DROOLWORTHY topic..... HIGHLANDERS! The authors on the panel were Melissa Mayhue (SQUEE), Margaret Mallory and Kimberly Killion (NEW SQUEE) Absolutely LOVED it! They did trivia questions on all things Scotland and we won books. I got a SIGNED copy of Soul Of The Highlander by Melissa Mayhue and guess who delivered it to me personally??
Oh yeah babe, show me your broadsword!
Lacey had a blast because she was sitting next to the lady Brooks Johnson fell on LOL He even put a book under his kilt and gave it to someone! We were a bunch of giddy schoolgirls giggling... and LUSTING and I'm positive we were all wondering the same thing - what the heck was under his kilt??
Next we went to an Erotic Romance panel and I have to say, I LOVED how they stressed ... erotic romance is NOT porn and it's not EROTICA. Each of the authors there write hot and steamy but it truly is all about the romance, the happily ever after and sharing a story filled with heart and emotion. Authors (I remember there) were Shayla Black, Kasi Alexander (NEW SQUEE), Sophie Oak, Jasmine Haynes and Melissa Schroeder. I loved how they talked about being true to yourself and doing what makes you happy despite all the naysayers. And you know what? They cry just as hard when a series ends like us!
Next stop was the Paranormal Romance panel and I had a HUGE squee moment. Guess who one of the presenter was? I squealed so loud that I made her jump but I couldn't help it because I LOVE, ADORE and SWOON over her Nightwalkers series...
Me and Jacquelyn Frank!!!
My gosh, this was a fun hour. It was Jacquelyn Frank, Jessa Slade (NEW SQUEE) and Sylvia Day and I loved the way they presented. You really got a sense of who they were and they all had this incredible humor. One of the things I really noticed today was how "real" the authors were - just regular people like you and me who are doing a job that they love.
Heading outside, Lacey and I saw that we could get a photo taken with Brooks Johnson (who I dubbed Brooks from Clan McSwoony) dressed in his kilt! I was a little giddy, a little embarassed but I got a photo and he smelt SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! He had his hand on the back of his name and squeezed and I was in heaven.
So tempting... He made me want to lick and touch!
For all of you who think I'M the crazy one... Lacey had a BLAST and asked Brooks to dip him. His response? "In chocolate or strawberry?" Lacey's response.... sorry this is a family establishment! HAHAHA But I will say... there is a photo where he suspicious looks like he's grabbing her crotch.
Hot damn!! Being a writer ROCKS!!
Walking around the hotel, you never knew what author you might run into. I spied Jessa Slade, author of the urban fantasy romance series The Marked Souls series and she was a COMPLETE sweetheart. She talked with me for a good 20 minutes, signed my books and we talked about writing! I loved how easy she was to talk to and can't wait to read her books. They're DEFINITELY something I'll devour.
Me and the fabulous Jessa Slade!!
Author Melissa Schroeder held a "Little Harmless" luau and the food was AH-MAZING! We sat at the table with author Kasi Alexander and got to talk. She's written an intiguing book about Jill, a woman who finds herself exploring the BDSM lifestyle, particularly a Master/slave dynamic and a polyamourous relationship. When I went back to my room later, I started DEVOURING the book and I love the way she takes the time to explain everything. She was there with her partners and they were just so friendly! We ended up playing with the mini beach ball and I got "leid" for the first time today! Sorry no photo because I was having so much fun talking that I forgot LOL
Back to the hotel room for a quick nap before heading out for dinner. We met up with Rita from Not Another Romance Blog and she's a HOOT! There was a lot of high fiving going on as I found another person who isn't a Rob Patz fan and a lover of ALL things historical romance. We gushed over Lisa Kleypas' The Wallflowers series and talked about how recognizable Jimmy Thomas' nipples were LOL Gotta love the random conversation topics!
Final event of the night was the Chocolate Mangasm party hosted by a group of erotic romance authors. Lots of photos but.... I'm not sharing *pokes out tongue* Just imagine sexy SHIRTLESS men walking around as we played funny sex games and you ge the drift .....
Okay, I'll share but it deserves it's very own post!
