One of the things I love most about blogging is being able to meet and chat with amazing authors. Last year, I was able to review the Jude Magdalyn series by an upcoming indie author called L.M. Pruitt. Let me just say, she has a real gift for storytelling because I hung on every word and the best news is - she's just released New Moon Rising, the first book in her new series!! I caught up with L.M. the other day and she shared a little about what's been going on with her and some cool things about her new release. Even better, she also offered up a copy of books Shades of Gray and Shades of Desire for one lucky follower to win. So keep reading and don't forget to enter at the end...
So what have you been up to? Writing anything exciting?
I'm currently working on the next Jude Magdalyn novel, Shades of Blood. The projected release date is May, so keep your fingers crossed! Just like Shades of Desire, Shades of Blood features a piece of New Orleans vampire lore along with Jude, Theo, Williams and the rest of the gang.
I hear you're about to release New Moon Rising this month, can you share a little on what it's about?
New Moon Rising is the story of Cari Gravier and the town of Selene, a little town in Georgia where the biggest events in the past ten years have been a wedding, a divorce, and a funeral. Except now strange things are happening. People being chased in the woods, dead rabbits on porches--and dead people. Now everything Cari thought she knew is about to change--and the past is about to come back to bite her with a vengeance.
How does this story differ from your Jude Magdalyn series?
New Moon Rising is very different from the Jude Magdalyn series. Rural setting as opposed to urban, familiar faces as opposed to strangers, and a down-home flavor as rich as BBQ sauce.
What's something readers will enjoy about the new book? About the characters?
I think readers will enjoy the local color, the feel of Selene and her occupants. It's a view and taste of a different culture and the feel of a small town. As to the characters, I'll admit I love them even more than Jude and her gang. There's much more depth, more emotion, and it jumps off the page.
Could you share a small teaser... something to whet our appetites with?
Below is just a little slice of that emotion:
“Quiet, Cari. I’ve spent five years waiting for a chance to say things to you. If I’ve only got a week, I’m gonna need every minute of it I can take.” His hands fisted in my hair, one sliding down to trace over my jaw line, much like I’d done to him earlier. “You said we were always flash and burn and you were right. You’re like fire, the way it just clears everything out, opens everything up, makes way for new things.”
Even if he’d given me a moment to speak, I wouldn’t have been able to. Neither one of us were wordy or poetic but the words flooding out of him were more beautiful than any of the poetry I’d had to suffer through in English class. I could feel it shuddering and cracking, that wall I’d built up to keep him out. It was weak to begin with and every word he said just chipped away a little more at the foundation.
“You burned through me so fast I never had a chance. I don’t know who I would have been or what I might have done if I’d never met you but I know I’d be missing something, I know I’d spend my whole life waiting for you.” His eyes were green now, just him, just Mike. “And if you’d ran, no matter how long you ran for, I would have been waiting here for you.”
I’d told myself I could take the week. That I’d earned it. If I’d earned it, then so had Mike. I didn’t know if he could fix what had happened before, every lie, every fight, every time I’d cried myself to sleep from one or the other. But if I could have a week to live in the before, he could have the same time to try and save the now."
I have wanted to give away a copy of this series for FOREVER! These are the books that left me speechless and I gave my HALLELUJAH chorus ratings to because I loved them so much. Sometimes I like my stories to be a little dark and these were a perfect blend of urban fantasy and action. There's an amazingly real and fiesty heroine, a flawed vampire and sexy as heck guy you can't help but love. Want to win a copy for yourself? Here's what you do...
