Book Blogger Hop #17 / Let's Play Catch Up

 January 7th - 10th

Hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!

This week's question comes from
Ivan who blogs at Ivan Bookworm:

"What book influenced or changed your life?
How did it influence/change you?"

I've been thinking on this all day and I keep going back to something I read just under a year ago. This book has had a PROFOUND affect on my life and been a major catalyst for all the change, fun and new experiences I had this past year. So what's the title I hear you ask??

The Trouble With Spells
Lacey Weatherford / Young Adult
Bk 1 of Witches and Warlocks series

Portia Mullins had always lived the life of a normal teenager, up until her sixteenth birthday. She is then informed by her grandma that she is actually a witch who is a descendant from a long line of witches and warlocks. After overcoming her disbelief she finds that being a member of the coven comes with one great perk in the form of the school's handsome bad boy, Vance Mangum. Vance and Portia have an immediate connection as a budding romance begins, only to be threatened by turbulent skies on the horizon as Vance's checkered past rears its ugly head to haunt them. Portia is forced to use her untried powers in defense of everything she loves in a desperate attempt to hold on to the one thing that really matters in her life.

Don't you just love the new cover in the works??

So here's what this AMAZING book did for my life:

I was in deep grief over losing my BFF to the swine flu and was completely lost. A family member recommended I read this book and when I finally did, I LOVED it!! Vance Mangum totally stole my heart and the fact that the author was married to my hubby's cousin was pretty cool. What started with a few FB comments with Lacey lead to one of the most influential friendships I've ever had. Not only have I found a best friend and confidante but someone I am so incredibly close to that we freak each other out with the "twilight zone" things that happen. We ALWAYS know when the other is texting, we finish each others sentences and we gave up counting how many things we have in common. She's my soul twin and for this alone I'm grateful for her book. But the blessings don't end there. Lacey is the one who got me into blogging - something that I've developed a great passion and deep love for. It's something that's opened the way for me to make great friendships with other book lovers and authors. Lacey was one of the first people I ever shared my desire to write with and has been my GREATEST supporter (whether its reading over rough drafts or kicking my pants when I feel defeated) I entered the NaNoWriMo challenge on her recommend and my finishing it was one of my biggest accomplishments last year. In every way she has been a blessing in my life and I can't begin to describe all the other ways my life has improved since she became a part of it. *sigh* Amazing, right? All that from a book. Gotta love it!

Thanks for hopping by my blog. :D

Your response is amazing, the best I've read so far. I'm a writer myself, still trying to get published for the first time, and I love to reminded just how powerful books can be. It helps to keep me going after the 100th rejection letter.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. What happened was utterly unfair.

Thank you for sharing this inspiring story.

It's so great that you have a friend like that. I have a similar friendship with my friend Kate, not to quiet the same degree as you but she has always been there for me and she is the one who got me into NaNo and helped me start my blog.
The book sounded good to so I'll have to add it to my TBR list!
