I Read, I Gushed, I Reviewed - Top 10 Reads For 2010

Happy New Year EVERYONE!!

This has been a HUGE year for reading and I've been amazed by some of the books I've been lucky to read. So many of them left me speechless and swooning in sighing heaps so I thought it was only fitting that my last post for 2010 be another shoutout for my top ten favorites. The books are in no order - I loved them all and ranking them would give me a stomach ache from having to choose. Happy reading !!

What Made 2010 An Amazing Year - Highlight #6

Imagine going to the library all your life and suddenly realizing there was this whole other room you never knew about that was just FILLED with amazing reads. That was me this year with my discovery of indie authors. For some crazy reason, I thought my reading material was limited to what I found on the shelves of Walmart, Borders and Barnes and Noble. I remember telling my hubby that I was worried I was running out of things to read and now my reading choices has EXPLODED!! There are so many brilliant indie authors out there and some of the best stories I've read this year have been written by them. I can't wait for this upcoing new year so I can share all the new releases and authors I find.

What Made 2010 An Amazing Year - Highlight #5

I almost choked when I heard myself utter the shocking words "I want a Kindle" this year. I was adamant I was NEVER going to own an ereader and that I'd rather sell my soul to the Devil. I have an obsession with books and LOVE the feel of them in my hands as I read them and even how they smell. I would laugh and roll my eyes at my husband whenever he suggested I should get an ereader because with the rate I was buying books, he was worried we were going to get buried alive or in the very least have to rent another house to live in. I was stubborn clear up until October when my husband bought me one for my birthday and I have to say I love it!! It's not nearly as strange as I thought it would be and I definitely love that Amazon offers LOADS of free books for it. I use it all the time now and surprise, surprise I still have my soul LOL

What Made 2010 An Amazing Year - Highlight #4

One of the most life changing events of my existence happened earlier this year when heartbroken, God saw my need for a special person to love and sent me my soul twin, Lacey. You will never find another two people so alike than us and it's a little freaky just how connected we are. We think the same, have similar likes and dislikes and it's not uncommon for us to text each other the SAME thing at the SAME time. She is the most beautiful person I know, one of my strongest and loudest supporters and I honestly have no idea how I ever survived without her. She's my best friend and sounding board, my partner in all things droolworthy and my fellow lover of all things Conan O'Brien (ROFL oh gosh no but ask her what he looks like in a kilt) She's the reason why I went through TWO phones this year from all our texting and why my phone bill is MULTIPLE pages (last time I checked my average monthly texting was over 10,000)  I don't know what I ever did to deserve such an amazing friend but I'll forever be grateful. Alot of the great and fun things I've done this year has been because she's stood in my corner and cheered. I love you Lacey!!

What Made 2010 An Amazing Year - Highlight #3

One of the most profound experiences I've EVER had happened this year when I witnessed the birth of my godson, Zach. I had so many crazy ideas about what it was going to be like but NOTHING prepared me for just how amazing it was. I expected screaming and loads of people hustling about, making it extremely clinical but it was the exact opposite - just me, my friend, her daughter and the nurse. Beautiful Zach came into the world in gentle whispers and a room filled with love and it was incredibly humbling.Of course, once the doctor finally showed up it was a mad house but those few minutes were peaceful and I can't think of a better way to born. I'll forever be grateful for the experience.

What Made 2010 An Amazing Year - Highlight #2

I thought I was absolutely CRAZY when I entered NaNoWriMo this year. I hummed and harred about it for a month, only deciding to enter at the very last second. I really wanted to see if I could do it but I had little confidence so my attitude going into it was to see how long I could last. *snort* I didn't write anything for the first couple of days but after that first weekend writing marathon, the spark was lit and I LOVED this challenge. What an experience! I learned that I love, love, love to write and I'm actually quite good at it *groans loudly but there I said it Lacey LOL*  Nothing beats the thrill of taking an idea (or in my case a dream) and turning it into a story. I am such a perfectionist and went into it thinking that I had to have everything super planned out so when my characters hijacked the story, taking me along for the ride, it was such a powerful lesson in trusting my instinct and letting things unfold naturally. There were a few moments where I thought I wasn't going to finish but I did - 2 or 3 days early and I felt so accomplished!!  I titled the story Broken Promises and  it's part of a trilogy that I loosely outlined. I haven't finished it yet but one of my 2011 goals is to look at maybe publishing it so cross your fingers for me. THANK YOU to everyone who supported me through November. I really appreciated it and it helped keep me going when I started to get discouraged. I'll definitely be signing up for NaNoWriMo again.

What Made 2010 An Amazing Year - Highlight #1

I've been sitting here thinking (I know, scary right?) and I can't help but smile and be grateful for this passing year. 2010 has been such a HUGE year for me with all the different opportunities for growth and new experiences I had. I can honestly say that I'm not the same person I was this time next year - I'm happier and more confident and I definitely have a real spring to my step. So what exactly happened? I thought I'd spend the next few days and share some of the highlights with everyone.

Grab your current read and open to a random page. Share a couple of “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!) Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teaser.

I can't gush enough about how EXTREMELY excited I am that the wait is almost over. This is the series that the very SECOND I get my hands on each book, the world stops until I finish reading it!! The books always end to soon because they completely suck you and let me tell all you sexy alpha men lovers - Kyden is seriously TO DIE FOR. He totally sizzles on the page and I'm completely addicted to him. The whole series has an amazing storyline and although this is the final book, I have to know what's in store for them. Stacey Kennedy is definitely an author to look out for because I've read each of her books and she has a real talent for capturing the attention of her readers.  For me, even though January is right around the corner, it can't come fast enough!! Saying Goodbye To 2010 With A BANG!!

As the days count down to the end of the year, I've been thinking of all the amazing books that have come out 2010 that completely stole my heart and put a smile on my face. The list is surprisingly long but there was one book that stood out and I'd have to say was my most ANTICIPATED book for the entire year. This was the book that I was impatiently counting down to and it's release was definitely my most memorable so in honor of that I've decided I'm going to give a copy of it away. Can you guess what the book is?

Goddess Of Spring
P.C. Cast / Paranormal Romance
Bk 2 of the Goddess Summoning series
Berkley Trade / November 2008

This time around, a down-on-her-luck baker comes upon a cookbook that turns out to be a goddess-send...

Lina's trendy bakery in Tulsa is proving to be less than lucrative, and she must come up with a plan. When she stumbles upon an Italian Goddess cookbook, Lina can't help but think she's found the answer to her problem—even if it means invoking a goddess to save her business. Soon enough, Lina finds herself face-to-face with Demeter, who has a plan of her own. She proposes that Lina exchange souls with Persephone, the Goddess of Spring, who will breathe new life into the bakery. In return, Lina must set order to the Underworld. Before all this, Lina's problems mostly involved sourdough and second dates. Now that she embodies the enchanting Persephone, Lina has weightier things on her mind—like the formidable task of bringing Spring to a world of spirits. But when the handsome, brooding Hades kindles a spark in her heart, Lina wonders if this Lord of the Underworld might be the man of her dreams

There Was Weeping Heard At Walmart

With hopeful heart I made the journey to Walmart the other day, wondering whether it was true - was my arch nemesis actually gone. Coming closer to the book section, I started to become excited because there was no sign of the rat fink and I started trying to guess who the new stocker was. To my delight the shelves were stocked and there was new books in the YA section. With a smile on my face, I began to look through the books and call it sixth sense but right at that moment I looked up and my heart sank. Guess who was approaching the books with a cart? Yep, you guessed it - HIM. So now it has me thinking, why the sudden change? Were there other shoppers who'd complained or was he finally doing his job and just how long with this "new" him last? Does this mean he's actually to be approachable and more importantly helpful? Who knows but I'm keeping my eye on him and hopefully this is a sign of better things to come. Cross your fingers!!

It's Raining Free Ebooks

It seems like Amazon is in the giving spirit this close to Christmas because again they're offering a truckloads of free books this morning. I'm really starting to love waking up and it's no surprise that one of the first things I do is rush over there to see what kind of goodies they have. These are EIGHT romances (of course since they're my addiction) so click the link and see if there's any you'd like for your own collection. I should share that even if you don't have a Kindle, they do have it where you can sign up to use your home computer and for some lucky people, you can download the Amazon Kindle app on your phones (I know it works on the Android and iTouch) so it's definitely something worth checking out. Happy reading !!

Book Review: Lucifer's Daughter by Eve Langlais

Lucifer's Daughter
Eve Langlais / Paranormal Romance
Liquid Silver Books / August 2010
Rating: Totally Smitten

Being Lucifer’s daughter can be hell.

Hi, I’m Muriel, the only white sheep in a sea of black ones, and a virgin to boot. I am determined to wait for love, but my dad, more commonly known as Lucifer, just wants me to stop being an embarrassment. I’m hoping the hunk that I met in my bar will turn out to be the one–just looking at him makes my insides melt like marshmallows over the coals of hell, but trusting is hard when it seems everyone I get close to ends up trying to kill me. Not only am I dealing with an extreme case of lust, there’s a new threat in hell, one my dad says to ignore. Something easier said than done since it seems everywhere I turn demons are trying to kill me. But I’m okay with that, because one thing I’ve learned being a princess of hell is that sometimes I have to grab a demon by the horns and slap it around a bit. A rebellion in hell, demon assassins and scorching kisses, could my life get any more interesting?

What better way to show my love and appreciation to all you wonderful people who've supported me and my blog this year than by sharing one of my most FAVORITE historical romance series to date. I discovered them earlier this year (pre blog) so I have no reviews of them yet but let me just tell you - they are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The story lines are fantastic, the characters are endearing and the men - sexy as heck!! So what's the series up for grabs???

Wait!! My Arch Nemesis Is ... GONE??

Way back when I first started blogging, I posted about the hate/hate relationship I have with the man who stocks the books at my local Walmart. I've never had an arch nemesis before but this guy has been a real thorn in my behind and his laziness has been a never ending source of frustration. Part of being in sales is to help the customer right? Most times it takes but a FEW moments to answer any questions so imagine my pure astonishment when this man seems to go out of his way to be a jerk. Here's but a few of his "antics"

In My Mailbox #16

Mailbox is a neat meme hosted by The Story Siren where we can celebrate some of the great books and treats we've received over the week. It doesn't matter if they were bought, sent through the mail or borrowed. It's a great opportunity to join in on the fun and share some of your "treasures" with everyone!!

The Tweet That Was Almost As Good As Percocet

Okay, I'm sharing this soley because it totally MADE my week.

For those that know me, I have a pretty lustful fascination with the actor Matt Lanter. He's been a frequent visitor in my dreams where we exchange some VERY hot and juicy kisses. Earlier this year, I posted about my horror at him visiting my site and learning about how much I love being held up against a car while he ravished me and then watching it go global.

So you can't begin to imagine how excited I was when I got a tweet alert this week from none other than Mr Lanter himself.

MattLanter @thebookishsnob get well!!

Of course, I have to reply -

@MattLanter I was doubled over in pain from
moving around & I got ur tweet. Not as good as
percocet but pretty damn close *grin* Thx

Here is an extremely busy guy who took those few seconds to wish me well and it just proves that not everyone in Hollywood is a jerk. He's such a great sport and just you watch, this guy is going to be HUGE!!

You can catch him as Liam on 90210, the voice of Anakin on Stars Wars: the Clone Wars and as extremely sexy Edward Sullen on Vampires Suck. For those who haven't seen this hysterical movie yet, it's a spoof of Twilight and he is "AHMAZING" in it. Countless people are saying he makes a better Edward than Robert Pattinson.

So anyway, there you have it. Just wanted to share :D

Quote: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

I was looking through some quotes from the Vampire Academy series and forgot that Richelle Mead also writes adult romance. I'm not sure if many people know that so I thought I'd share it because it definitely gave me a chuckle.  Enjoy!

"I hope I redeemed myself with the whole dancing-sex comparison.”
“I suppose there were a couple of notable similarities,” I observed, holding a straight face.
“A couple? What about attention to detail, heavy exertion, lots of sweat, and single-minded determinedness to get the job done and done well?”
“Mostly I was thinking you just don’t talk during sex.” Mean perhaps, but I couldn’t resist.
“Well, my mouth has better things to do.”
I swallowed, my own mouth dry. “Are we still talking about dancing?"

Teaser Tuesday #16

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading and here's how you play..
