Wait!! My Arch Nemesis Is ... GONE??

Way back when I first started blogging, I posted about the hate/hate relationship I have with the man who stocks the books at my local Walmart. I've never had an arch nemesis before but this guy has been a real thorn in my behind and his laziness has been a never ending source of frustration. Part of being in sales is to help the customer right? Most times it takes but a FEW moments to answer any questions so imagine my pure astonishment when this man seems to go out of his way to be a jerk. Here's but a few of his "antics"

1. COUNTLESS times either myself or my hubby has gone to the book section on Tuesdays (release day) to see what's new. I've spent ALOT of money at Walmart so I'm a frequent flyer. Most times, there's a specific book I'm looking for and my hubby will approach him and ask him if he has it in. The man's response "I don't know. Probably not." Fine, that's okay because you can't really expect him to remember everything so my hubby asks him if he could quickly check his invoice list. There have been times when the man has told my hubby no but most times he quickly glances at it and tells him he doesn't have the title. This has me logging onto Amazon and buying the book online. No problem, right? Imagine my surprise when the next day I go into Walmart and lo and behold, THERE IS THE BOOK. The man had it the whole time but for whatever reason, it's too difficult for him. Frustrating as HECK!! Needless to say, I don't really hold my breath now.

2. There was one day I went in and he was there stocking shelves. To my absolute delight, the book I wanted was there and so I started walking to go get it. The man is sitting on a wheely chair and as I go to move around him what does he do? He moves and BLOCKS me from getting into the aisle. BLOCKS ME!!  He doesn't budge and kind of stared at me waiting to see what I'd do. I had to squeeze past him, almost fell but managed to snag the book. Sure I could've walked all the way around but I was just so shocked. It was everything I could do not to kick that chair out from under him.

3. His latest "thing" is when my hubby does go in now and he's there,(we kind of stopped because there was only so much we could take) the VERY second he sees my hubby he STOPS everything and walks off, disappearing to the back of Walmart. Well, maybe he has something to do back there? Nope, my hubby doesn't think so because it seems strange how often it happens.

Those are just a few things and  it doesn't even begin to describe just how NEGLECTED the shelves are. Especially now that I blog, I know what books come out and it bites having that glimmer of hope that I'll find a new release on the shelves. The extent of the YA section is some books from the House of Night series, LOADS of the Twilight Saga (enough already), some Vampire Academy and the Percy Jackson series. That's it. Now I know this is just our Walmart because I've gone to other stores and about died when I saw the WIDE variety of releases. So imagine my COMPLETE SHOCK when I went in the other day and found this...

Torment, Clockwork Angel, Shadowland, Evermore and Vixen. I about passed out because there on the shelves was MATCHED and BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS !!! I NEVER expected to see those two and so it left me wondering - had my arch nemesis finally decided to do his job or *crosses fingers* has he gone, opening up the way for someone else?

I can only hope so!!
(LOL)

This could mark the end of an era so I'm waiting impatiently for tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted.

Wow, he is SO weird! I hope he's totally gone or moved to a different section. So happy for you and wish you all the best there.

Our Walmart recently improved their bookshelves too! Hopefully your nemesis is gone, but it's ridiculous in this economy for someone with a perfectly nice job (seriously, stalking new releases? Um, dream job!) to be a jerk and risk losing it because he's too lazy to try a little customer service.

Hahahha, that's awesome! Maybe Wal-Mart got a new book buyer for your region? So glad to see that you have great new reads at your finger tips!

For your sake, I'll hope that he's moved on to torment customers elsewhere and that maybe, just maybe the book section of your Walmart might just be saved after all, lol.

Seriously though, how have you guys gone so long w/o complaining? I would have talked to someone in mgmt about him b/c he was just rude & unprofessional!

Happy reading!!

You are nicer than I! I would have complained to the supervisor before now. Glad it will be more pleasant for you!

You know, I actually did go over to the customer service department to talk with the store manager. They gave me a number to call to complain but I got frustrated with the crazy automated response.

What ever happened to talking to a real person?

We have three Walmarts here, and it is amazing how different their book departments are. A friend and I won't even go to the Super Walmart anymore because their book dept is aweful. The shelves are poorly stocked and rarely up to date.

As for this particular stocker, I would have to complain loud and often to management. I know Walmart hires outside book distributors to come in, and this guy is costing them sales. If possible, I would also find out the company he works for and report him to them as well.

By contrast, the lady that stocks the westside Walmart here is the absoluite best. She will actually ask patrons if there is something particular they are looking for, and dig it out of the box for them if she hasn't yet shelved it.

This is hilarious... lol...

Besides your local indie book store... if you have one, I suggest you try the The Book Depository. Free shipping world wide and the prices are great.

Check them out. You can also set up an affiliate account with them to create book links.... and maybe make a few cents.

I gave up on our Walmart b/c I totally don't understand their system to stocking. Sometimes it's be genre, sometimes it's by name...I dont have all day to stand there. Plus they never have what Im looking for b/c generally I look for smaller authors.
