Book Blogger Hop #15 / Month In Review

December 3 -6, 2010

Hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!

*click on the title for the answer to this week's question*

This week's question is -

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

Hmmm... there were two books I know everyone was excited over that I didn't fancy at all -  The Hollow by Jessica Verday and The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer. I remember buying them thinking that they would be the next best read but once I was done I was EXTREMELY disappointed.

Writing the reviews for them both were hard. With The Hollow, I hated the book so much I RANTED for a good 2 hours afterwards to my BFF who had to talk me down from writing a very angry email to the author and burning the book. When it came time to write the review, I really didn't want to be scathing and tried hard to tone down my anger a little. It's strange for me not to like a book let alone have such a violent reaction to one and so I wrote the review carefully.

With The Short Life of Bree Tanner, my anxiety came solely from the fear I was going to be mobbed by all the Twihard fans!! I pictured mobs with pitchforks demanding my execution. I know, I know - there was no way of that happening but I was still relatively new to blogging and still had the "Oh I can't say anything bad in case someone doesn't agree" attitude. I really saw the book as pointless and nothing more than a way to cash in on the release of Eclipse because it didn't bring anything new to the story. Yes, we got a little glimpse into Bree's life but it wasn't much of a glimpse and wasn't given the proper room to explore. So yeah, wasn't impressed at all. Posted the review and what do you know - haven't seen hide nor hair of a lynch mob LOL

This Month In Review

I changed it to month because I disappeared a little through November. I was participating in NaNoWriMo and it took ALOT of my time. YAY for me, I completed it and only have a little more to write before the novel is finished. LOTS of fun and worth all the stress and all night writing marathons!

The month, I took part in the Gratitude Giveaway and Jessica from Book Sake won my book prize of the first 3 books in the Sookie Stackhouse series. YAY Jessica!

Here are some of the reviews I posted:

A Tournament Knight by Marisa Chenery
Undying Heart by Zoe Archer
The Ghost Hunter by Lori Brighton
No Rest For The WICCA by Toni LoTempio
Under The Moon's Shadow by T.L. Haddix
Living Nightmare by Shannon K. Butcher
In The Company Of Vampires by Katie MacAlister

Here are my NaNo posts:

Hopping by.
It is a shame when we grab a book that has been hyped only to find we are disappointed with it.

The Children's Book by A S Byatt comes to mind. I could not get on with too many characters.

Hopping by to say hi! Yikes, I got the Hollow in my TBR pile since I won it in a contest, but now I'm afraid to read it. Is your review still up?

My bad experience with a "hyped" book was with Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep. I just was really annoyed by the writing style and hated that I didn't like it since the series is pretty popular among some bloggers.

Here's my full Hop post

Happy Friday!

Hopping through. I think loads of people share your feelings on Bree. I liked it quite a bit, but I was mostly interested in seeing Stephenie's description of newborns and I got what I wanted. The plot wasn't as important to me.

It's my first time hopping by. So, hello!
Also, I wanted to say that I agree with you about The Hollow. It was a DNF for me and I was glad that I'd decided to get it from the library rather than purchase a copy.

Hi,
Just hopping by and following through. To be honest I have avoided Bree Tanner because I loved Twilight so much and I'm afraid it just wont meet my expectations

Reviews should remain honest regardless of what is written and how it sounds like and this just shows that loving or liking a book really depends on a person preference and type. that's why we have a wider range of genres and authors to choose from.

Dropping by via the hop. I would love to see you over at Clandestine Sanctuary and read my answer to this question. I am an old follower.

Have a great weekend!

Hopping through :) I'm sure a lot of people agree with you over Bree. I really enjoyed the Twilight books but not so much that one.

I have The Hollow on my wish list, but you're not the first to be disappointed with it. I'm seriously thinking of removing it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I haven't read either The Hollow or the Bree Tanner short, but I've read mixed reviews on both, so you're clearly not alone in your feelings:) Hope you have a great weekend!

LOL! I tried to read The Hollow, but I struggled with it. I might pick it back up eventually, but it might just stay on the shelf, too!

Meghan said...

yea, I didn't even bother with the Bree Tanner short*shrug* figured I'd have enough people telling me to stay away a few days after the books' release. New Follower.

I was going to read the Bree Tanner one but when the slew of not so amazing reviews came out, I held off. I still would like to read it to decide for myself but I won't buy a copy, I'll bum one off a friend. Have a great Sunday!
