In My Mailbox #11

Mailbox is a neat meme hosted by The Story Siren where we can celebrate some of the great books and treats we've received over the week. It doesn't matter if they were bought, sent through the mail or borrowed. It's a great opportunity to join in on the fun and share some of your "treasures" with everyone!!

( click on the title for my mailbox )

Well just a few updates I wanted to show what I got this week..

Week #2 of my Book Buying Ban

This week was a little weird. I still found myself going to Walmart, touching all the new books but I managed to stop myself from buying anything. Thing is I found a loophole - if I get my HUSBAND to buy the books, it's not breaking the ban because it's not me *rolls eyes* I'm too embarassed to show the 3 books I had him buy me. Needless to say, my hubby is under STRICT orders that no matter the tears or threats he buys no more for me. So we'll see what happens as I go into week 3. LOL

Week #1 of the NaNoWriMo challenge

I took the leap of faith and signed up as a participant - write 50,000 words in 30 days with a novel as the result. I already have an outline for the story I'm writing as well. It's part of a three book urban fantasy series tentatively called Crossing The Veil and I've called the book Broken Promises. Here's the synopsis I just sweated over.. I mean wrote (YAY)

All Bree wanted to do was spend her Friday night with the man she loved and adored. Planning to watch a movie together, she never would've believed that leaving her home would result in her relationship with Quinn being tested beyond its limits. Unknown to her, the Fae have been planning for centuries to invade Earth, their plans finally starting that night. Through a shocking turn of events, Bree finds herself battling to save Quinn from himself as he stalks her relentlessly, heavily under the influence of the Fae. If this wasn't enough, Bree discovers a startling truth about her heritage as she teams up with others to drive the Fae back across the veil. Way over her head, Bree has no other choice but to fight, leading her to a confrontation that will change her world forever.

I started 4 days late so I've been playing catch up this weekend. So far I've written 6,883 words and for those of you who are having fun doing it, if you want you can find me under TheBookishSnob (I swear I spend to much time on my blog because it never dawned on me to use my real name, Belinda) I'll keep you all updated each week so cross your fingers. This is a huge undertaking for me and I'm a little nervous.

So let's get down to business. Here's what I got book wise this week ...

Certain Wolfish Charm by Lydia Dare

(thanks Jackie for the email!)

In Lydia dare's debut trilogy, Regency England has gone to the wolves! He gets crankier and crankier as the moon gets full. Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, is rich, powerful, and sinfully handsome, and has spent his entire life creating scandal and mayhem. It doesn't help his wolfish temper at all that Miss Lily Rutledge seems not the least bit afraid of him, and in fact, may be as untamable as he is.
A woman whose charm is stronger than the moon. When Lily's beloved nephew's behavior becomes inexplicably wild, she turns to Simon, the boy's cousin and guardian, for help. But Simon's idea of assistance is far different than hers, and Lily finds herself ensconced in his house and engaged to the rogue. They both may have bitten off more than they can chew when each begins to discover the other's darkest secrets...

The Matchmakers by Jennifer Colgan

Two wrongs don't make a right, but they just might make a perfect match. Nick Garret is flypaper for females, and he likes it that way. Women stick for a while, and when it-s over they fly away. So does he. Then one rain-slick night a young woman steps in front of his pickup truck, and his jaded, cynical life takes a sharp swerve toward trouble. Calliope did the only thing she could think to get Nick to steer his truck-and his life-in a new direction. Banished from the Fae realm for granting a wish gone bad, her punishment is an impossible task; redeem the unredeemable Nick Garret. If she fails to help him pair three couples in everlasting bliss, he-s doomed to never experience real love. And she will share his fate-as a mortal. Nick can't decide if this charming, exasperating woman is a dream come true, or a saucy, sexy nightmare sent to drive him insane. Yet something about her makes him want to rise to her challenge. He-ll do anything to make her stick around a while. Besides, how much trouble can one half-naked, seemingly wingless faerie be? Warning: This title contains sensual love scenes, mischievous Fae, removable wings and hot men in tool belts.

Haha, aww. Your book buying ban sounds tough. If I actually have money to buy books, I would. But thankfully I'm a poor college student living off of .25c ramen noodles and can't afford books. xD

Where did you happen to get Reasons on my Wrist and The Matchmakers? From Touch The Night's free e-book links? I couldn't find them :( But overall, a good haul for having a book buying ban!

Awesome books you got this week. I'm doing NaNoWriMo too, good luck with yours. Hope you enjoy reading all your books.

Good luck with the book buying band! I've never been able to do one myself. But I don't think I'm real crazy on the buying part, I usually stick to my new releases list from authors I love with the occasional new one here or there.

I totally want to read Katie McAllister's book...cover is yummy on that one as well...hmmmm *drool*...
Your lucky, when I told my hubby which books I wanted for Christmas he told me there was zero chance he would go to the checkout with ANY of them based on the covers LOL. He'll buy tampons but not romance books...go figure. :) I will be expecting a giftcard from him.

WOW Belinda I am so looking forward to reading your story. Sweat tears and blood will go into it and I'll be waiting for when you say "IT"S OUT!" Go girl!

Nice set of reads and your hubby is a doll for buying the books and Week 3 will be better... Just don't take him to Wal mart and voila NO BOOKS!

I bought but under the guise that it was only 3 bucks for 2 books at the bazaar... ;)

Have a good one and dying to read more on Bree and Quinn.

Ha! Love your book ban loop hole. The tricks we play to get our books, huh? I'm to the point where I can browse without buying. I just remind myself that there's no way for me to finish what I currently have.

Have a great week!

Wow, your NaNo novel sounds great! I've been trying to write but it's proving to be very difficult with my children.
I'm on a book buying ban myself and I did great for like two weeks.
Then I decided I'm going to a huge sci fi event with a bunch of authors and so I had to put in an order so I had more books for them to sign (they're more expensive at the event)! And I betcha I'll buy more once I get there cause not all the authors are familiar to me and I'm sure I'll think "Oh, that sounds good, I better buy one." I'm just a sucker for signed books...

I know how it feels to try and ban yourself from buying more books. I try so hard but it just doesn't work. So I continue to buy...UGH! Upside is we will always have great reads.
Great IMM list too. Looking forwad to reading your reviews.

Hi Bel,

Great haul this week =)

I wish I could get my OH to buy me books..he thinks I have too many so refuses to buy he has a nack for picking up book genres that I USED to read and hardly read since I became a supernatural freak LOL

Great to see that you are still trying to stick to your book ban..I'm sure NanoWrimo is keeping your hands busy from buying books =)
