In My Mailbox #7

Mailbox is a neat meme hosted by The Story Siren where we can celebrate some of the great books and treats we've received over the week. It doesn't matter if they were bought, sent through the mail or borrowed. It's a great opportunity to join in on the fun and share some of your "treasures" with everyone!!

So this week has been one that's made my stomach churn. I've honestly been think about putting myself a month long book ban (ugh just typing it I broke out in a sweat) and I've been trying to figure out how I can do it. I just posted my thoughts on this ( GULP Is There A Book Buying Ban In My Future? ) if you wanted to read it. You know, as long as something fits within the Fantasy/Paranormal/Romance genre, I'll read it. I'm really not a picky reader so I did an experiment this week and here's the results - my IMMB this week,

Haha. I seriously just heard the noise you made as you thought  "Belinda, you say you want to book ban yourself so you go out and go CRAZY PSYCHOTIC with your book buying??" I know what it looks like so maybe I should tell you my experiment. I wanted to see how many books I could get for a specific amount of money. My thinking is if I can't book ban myself, I can book budget myself at least and that's what I tested this week. Now these books came from a variety of places and I don't think it'll be this huge in the future but the thing I'm looking at is that for a book addict like myself - if I desperately need a book I can find one. So  take a look and try to guess how much they all cost *sits quietly while you look and guess*

Click on the title for the answer and the rest of my IMMB

Only $15

Can you believe that? I died when I realized how little I spent and it shocked the heck out of me. Maybe there's hope for me yet. Here's how I did it...

All I can say is that getting the Droid phone was a good decision because without the Kindle app, there's NO WAY I could get free books. These last few days have shown me that working within a limited budget may just work when there's no BIG books coming out, I just haven't figured out what I'm going to do when those "HAVE TO HAVE" reads are released. But at least this little experiment was successful in showing me books can be found. So I just need to keep thinking it out and see what happens. Hope you all have fun with your IMMB :)

There's only 4 more days left to enter my HP Mallory giveaway for your chance to win a copy of her book To Kill A Warlock or Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble.

I freaked out after I went to BEA in May and got over 80 books. It seemed like a great thing until they were all staring back at me waiting to be read and reviewed.
I have Delerium - haven't gotten to it yet and I want Angelfire. I believe that's on Netgalley so that would be a freebie.
Good luck plowing your way through all that!!

I love love love the Amazon freebies, the Borders freebies, the Barnes and Nobles freebies and a few other places have found... Last week got 26 from Borders and so far have close to 100 free from Amazon over the last several months.. Needless to say I still spend more than should on books because I buy all mine that are in series already follow and they add up fast! You did good Belinda, keep looking for those deals!

You will have to give lessons if you can budget yourself. My husband was liked my Kindle because it meant less luggage weight every summer (I would like to point out that he bought lots of books also!), but now he has discovered the budget busting one-click ordering. Good thing he loves me. :)

Bookangel said...

For only $15 that's a great haul. I started to think, there was a hole in your wallet after buying all those books. I'm a sucker for a sale too!

WOW - that's a HUGE amount of books for so little - great job, I'm impressed! :)

Also, I'm SO jealous of you right now ... HarperCollins doesn't like me, lol, and declined all of my Net Galley requests ... FAIL! Oh, well.

Have a lovely week, Bella xx

Wow I'm in pure Awe right now. That is a TON of books. :)
I've been wanting to read Unearthly and Angelfire for so long now. Happy Reading.

This is awesome. I have a great selection on my i-Pod that I've also gotten for free. As for book-buying-ban, I've been thinking about doing the same thing. In the past, I've tried to negotiate with myself that for every 5 books that I own and read, I can buy one new one. I can never make it to 5. It is more like, for every 3 I read, I can buy 2!

Book Sake said...

I'm addicted to downloading books for the Kindle as well. I have the app on my computer and on my IPhone. There are always new free books out there, it's crazy! Enjoy all of your new finds!

Kelly said...

I love the free books for the Kindle. I go through their free bestsellers list CONSTANTLY to see what new goodies I can acquire. Lol!

As for Borders, you can't dl those books to your Kindle (as far as I can tell) but they're readable with the Adobe e-reader and their selection of "free for a limited time" books are so fantastic that I can bear to sit at my comp for an extended amount of time if it means reading all these beauties!

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new books!

@ The Bookish Snob,

Seriously good choices in the book acquiring department, crazy psychotic book buying or not. I'm super excited to read Unearthly and Angelfire myself, the second I get my hands on it anyway. Afterlife...I have a question about that. What do you think of the Evernight series? I read the first one then stopped because I got scared it would get worse for Lucas and Bianca...Let me know.

It's Belinda, right? Enjoy all your books!

Happy Sunday! (:

Are you ready for this?

Here's the books that are Free For a Limited Time. Once you're on that page you can filter it by genre/category. They also have a straight "Free e-books" section on the yellow line at the top of the page but that's a big, fat mess. You can't filter that in the least and half of the 1.5 MILLION books are in different languages.

So, when I tried to filter the regular "romance" genre by price the lowest price it showed was .89. Gah. This is not nearly as user friendly as Amazon.

If anything magically happens to make this easier, I'll let you know.

This is a fabulous haul of books for only $15!! I've tried to put myself on book buying budgets before...success rate is minimal, though. My husband told me that $25/month would be ideal, but I kind of laughed at that idea.

UNEARTHLY!!! I cannot wait to read that, and I'm sad that I have to wait until 2011 until its release! I hope you enjoy!

Wow, seriously??? For $15??? I don't buy books, because on my student budget, I can't really afford to, so I stick to borrowing books from the library. So I figured if I can't buy books, I really can't buy a Kindle, but after seeing what you did with only $15, I'm thinking maybe I will invest in a Kindle and start getting some free books to actually own!

WoW o.0 I am jealous!!

You mentioned you have a droid phone..I have one too but I find reading in PDF Format onthe phone a bit tricky as you have to constantly slide from side to side to read the edge of a page. Or are you saying that there's a Kindle App that makes it easier to read? If so, I need to download it LOL

LOL... I'm having a similar issue since getting an e-reader. First, there are the books to buy. Then I discovered NetGalley. Then I found a local library site that had 27 books that I wanted to read (I put them on my wishlist for later). So many books, so little time! But at least it's not going to break the bank.

Casey (The Bookish Type) said...

WOW! That's seriously amazing! NetGalley is a wonderful thing, isn't it? I'm so excited to read Delirium and Unearthly!! HarperCollins joining NetGalley is pretty much awesomesauce =) Enjoy your MANY new books! Thank you so much for stopping by my site!

I often feel like I'm really missing out by not having an ereader, I think I'll renew my request for one this Christmas. I'd love to have some of those free ebooks for when I'm between series and in that wretched stage of waiting. I also tagged you on my blog!
