Book Blogger Hop #9 / My Week In Review

October 1-4, 2010

Hosted by Jen at Crazy-For-Books

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read! (click the title)

This week's question is:

"How do you spread the word about your blog?
(e.g. Social Networking sites, Book Blog Directories,
comments on other blogs...)"

Ummm. I've only been doing this for about 5 months and when I first started I had NO clue. I kinda just blogged and sent my hope out into the Universe that people would find me. I can't remember the how's or why's but I got onto Twitter and started tweeting whenever I added a new post on my blog. I visited people's blogs but still was kind of drifting. I then discovered Goodreads and joined some communities there and a whole bunch of people visited. A light bulb went off. Hmm maybe there's something to be said for socializing (ROFL who would've thought it huh?) I don't know where I was but it was the HOP that I saw on someones blog and I thought I'd try it. BAM!! I met you all and you met me and I was so excited. I joined in more and more memes (Teaser Tuesday, Waiting On Wednesday, In My Mailbox specifically) and I think that's been the BEST thing I've ever done. I'm a big believer that if you want people to visit, it starts with you putting on your own visiting shoes and going around the neighborhood.  I try REALLY hard to make it through every link (and most memes I do) and share a little bit about myself and the excitement I feel about the books I love. My hope is that people will then come visit me and like what they see enough to keep coming back. So that's my answer for this week :D

My Week In Review (this is really a chance for me to have one big giddy moment)

I started my own meme this week called "Waiting For Pay Day". My hope is for people to come and share the books they desperately want to read but don't have the money at moment to buy. The books can be either newly released or those books that have been out for a while. It's also an opportunity to look through our TBR piles and find those books that had us excited that we may just be able to afford now. It's held here every Thursday and I'd love to see you all :)

A while ago, I was approached to review for The Romance Reviews website and this week my first review for Play Dirty by Lorie O'Clare was posted. I was giddy for the whole day and I'm excited to be part of an amazing site.

I have two giveaways planned for October - HP Mallory giveaway (Oct 1-13) and "Bite Me, Change Me, Corrupt Me" (Oct 13-31) Each giveaway gives followers an opportunity to win books that I LOVE. For more details you can see the picture at the top or go to my Cool Giveaway page. I'll keep providing the links in each meme I participate in as well.

Ok here's some posts and book reviews I did this week you might be interested in:

I couldn't agree more, going out and taking the initiative is the best way to go about blogging when you're new. It's all about meeting new people and sharing opinions:) Love your blog, I'm an old follower!

Hey,

Just stopping by from the hop, thanks for visiting my blog before.

How's Australia hey ... umm she's fine! At least the election is over (go Julia!) now it's just footy footy footy (AFL), I hate football. I don't know if you've heard but the grand final was a draw last weekend so there's going to be a second match tomorrow (I don't know why they didn't just go into overtime). I tried for like an hour on the internet to get a ticket for my Dad who is a die hard Saints fan but I couldn't the server was overloaded.

I live in Melbourne and we've been having some shitty weather even though we're in spring, it's been really gloomy and overcast but today it's so nice not a cloud in the sky I just want to get out and walk instead I'm stuck trying to finish off an assignment, whilst getting distracted by blog hopping around. My brother is in Coffs Harbour for a week and he says he's had really nice weather. What's it like where your living now?

Ohh, I've written a lot, whoops, so I probably should finish off.

Have a great weekend.

Romy :)

I found you on the book blog hop, and I LOVE your blog design! The banner pic reminds me of Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games haha. You have a lot of books on your blog that I haven't heard about yet and I am excited to read their reviews! I'll be sure to comment them when I've gotten through them!

yeah I agree.. the memes are definitely the quickest way to get traffic.. and I think they are a lot of fun. My favorites are Waiting on Wednesday & In My Mailbox!

Hey! You are 100% right, the memes are what increased my presence in the blogosphere! Not sure why I forgot to mention that :)

I love that you stick to your structure and take the time to leave thoughtful comments when you visit fellow bloggers. I know every blogger enjoys seeing a comment every once in a while that doesn't resemble spam.

Thank you for visiting my blog. :]

Also, I'd never heard about that Waiting for Pay Day meme - thanks for linking to it!

Have an awesome weekend.

Just stopped by for the hop. I love your week in review. I was the same way when I first started blogging, just crossed my fingers and hoped. Now, however, I've learned that you need to work at it and spend lots of time on other people's blogs. What goes around comes around, and I find the whole experience more satisfying now. I hope you have a great weekend!!

Just hoppin' on by! <3 Thank you for stopping by my blog!

I really love the in-depth answer you gave! I've found that stepping around the neighborhood works really well too (not that I'm any better at it, still). I've made a couple of awesome friends by regularly stopping by their blogs. It's fun. <3

Wow, you try to go through the WHOLE linky? Man, I can barely get through all the visitors to my blog! lol. I try to visit everyone who visits me, especially if they leave a quality comment, and then I try to pick a few out of the linkys, but sometimes I don't get that far. I do spend a good 3 hours + a day doing blog stuff. But I feel like I'm never satisfied. Never blog enough, never visit enough blogs... yeah, it's a full time job!
Your new meme sounds very interesting! If I'm ever able to add another one to my schedule I'll keep it in mind. And I'll have to check out your HP Mallory post. I'll have mine go up on Monday, I think.

Hopping by to return the visit! I love that you're doing a giveaway with H.P. Mallory. I really liked Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble, and now I'm reading and enjoying To kill a Warlock. :-)

Bookangel said...

Very thorough. For only five months, I think you're very ahead of the game. I like to the blog hop, but sometimes I just don't have the time for all the other memes. In time I will become more diligent in visiting blogs. But sometimes, if there isn't a quality comment I'm not compelled to go to other blogs. Thanks for stopping by my blog

Hi, stopping by from the Hop. You had me at "Arizona", my favorite state. Okay, I also really liked your Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble review and I loved your "What Can you Expect..." review policy. I tend to get too analytical in my opinions, but ultimately, I think it *is* how a book makes you feel that is important.

Hopping on by. I liked your post Twilight - The Kiss Of Death For Authors. While I'm not a Twilight fan, I do tend to avoid books I feel are similar to the story. Perhaps because I'm not a fan .... :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I agree, it is important to go visit other blogs and comment to get visitors for one's own. Congratulations on posting your first review on The Romance Reviews website. :)

Heyy! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Your blog is sooo cute!!! I love it! I agree with you, if you visit others, they will hopefully visit you back! That's how I see it too! I was joining the Hop almost every week for a few weeks, but have been super busy with work so haven't had a chance until just recently. I also participate in another blog called The Broke and the Bookish, where we do a weekly meme/feature called Top Ten Tuesday if you'd like to check it out sometime! I know you said you like to do the meme/features!! I am now following you!
