It's kind of uncanny how when each Friday rolls around and I look at the questions Jenny posts on her site, Crazy For Books because the question always seems eerily fitting. I've been struggling a little with my rating system, trying to iron out kinks and so it's been on my mind all week. Lo and behold, this week's fine BBHop question is ....
Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if you do, what is it and why?
(click the title for more)
When I first started out, I came up with a rating system based on stars and hearts. The stars were used to show how much I liked what I'd read - from "I'm aiming for the trash bin so I could burn it" to "I love it so much I'm rushing out to buy it for my friends". I also added the hearts as a blush rating for how steamy the book would be because I'm the reader who when she buys a book would like a little forewarning on just how raunchy the book will get before I hit it and cop an eye full. For example, I bought this book once, that I read reviews about and people RAVED. I bought it, began reading it and hit some of THE most deviant sex scenes I have EVER had to displeasure of reading and I mean, they were REALLY bad. Thinking the first scene was a fluke, I kept reading and hit a bigger one and I'm telling you, that book flew so hard out of my hand against the opposite wall, the house shook. So I added the heart rating for other readers like me hoping they would appreciate it. Long story short? I've gotten a little better and more creative since I started and so I'm starting to reevaluate the system. I'm looking at icons that match the feel of my site (any suggestions would be appreciated) and turned the heart/blush into the sizzle meter. I'll get it right some day so until then kind of bear with me :D
And just an FYI, I'm adding some of the things I added to the site this week. Hope you can check them out.
Death Match - The YA Fang Boy who people voted for as The Perfect Date was finally revealed
Book Reviews - I reviewed The Hellion and the Highlander by Lynsay Sands.
In The Spotlight - Author Marcia McClure was announced as my next spotlight
Be Still My Heart - I combined my men together and although it's still a work in progress, it's nice to have them all in one place.
The Shrine - As a HUGE Vance Mangum fan, I started a page solely dedicated to him and added 3 new posts. One of them sparked such a huge reaction that my site was flooded for two days.
Of course, there's what you see on this page, the various memes I participated in and the random thoughts I had. It's been a pretty surreal week here, one I don't think I'll ever be able to top. I've got lots of new ideas - a new Death Match in the works, a new giveaway called "Ravish Me" and a possible meme of my own. I hope you keep coming and reading and now I appreciate your support.
Happy reading and a safe Hop :D
